The FTC's Two-year Report on the Effectiveness of CAN-SPAM

Earlier this week, the Federal Trade Commission released a report on CAN-SPAM. As required by the original legislation, the FTC was tasked with reviewing the effectiveness of the new law after it had been in place for two years. The report can be summarized as follows.

- The law has helped.
- The law should be continued, and expanded a bit.
- Anti-spam technology has helped a lot, too.
- Spam hasn't ruined email.

"The e-mail landscape has changed significantly, largely for the better," the report says. "In essence, these developments suggest that spam has not, as once feared, destroyed the promise of e-mail."

You can read the release and the report here.
